CLEANING AND TAKING CARE OF YOUR BEESWAX FOOD WRAP
After using the beeswax food wrap, you can clean it under running cold/tepid water and, if necessary, wash with a mild detergent and then gently dry with a kitchen cloth. Due to the low melting point of the wax, do not wash your beeswax wraps in a washing machine or dishwasher. Also, do not keep them close to a direct heat source.
A coniferous resin for the mixture is often used to make the beeswax wrap. This type of mixture may leave a slight pine aroma to the wrapped food in the first 2-3 times of usage. To avoid this, wash the cloth with cold water and let it dry. After the first use, the pine aroma should disappear, and the food wrap will begin to capture the aroma of the food you are storing.
From personal experience, I could say that the food wrap may not necessarily capture a smell from the food. I have kept several smelly slices of cheese, some of which Blue Cheese and Roquefort, on a plate which I then wrapped in ecotseco’s beeswax food wrap. I then left it in the fridge for a couple of weeks. There was no smell in the fridge and after washing the beeswax cloth with tepid water there was no smell on the cloth either.
I recommend you separate your beeswax food wraps and reuse the same cloth for similar types of food. For example, do not wrap half a watermelon in the same wrap you used for an onion the previous time. Unless of course, you like your watermelon tasting like an onion. We are not here to judge.
Remember NOT TO use your beeswax food wrap directly on meat, poultry & fish products.
Keep in mind that during use, it is normal for the clothes to be covered with fine lines, wrinkled or coloured (eg when used to store cherries, red beets and other colouring foods).
